Melinda B. Norris, M.B.A.

Associate Professor

  • M.B.A., University of South Carolina
  • B.A., Furman University

Professor Norris has a wealth of experience in small business management and marketing. Her teaching interest are in the area of marketing strategy and marketing research. Professor Norris has served in various capacities at Coker University, including the Department Chair for the School of Business.

I returned to the region to be closer to my family; my mom actually discovered the open visiting professor position at Coker University for me. In my interview with the late former college president, I knew I found my professional career “home.”

I am devoting my life to the students that I have the honor to teach in the classroom. My hope is that I inspire students to perform at their personal best. To me, being at Coker is really about developing relationships with students, creating classroom environments that promote integrity and respect, and providing students with opportunities to take ownership of their learning by engaging students in projects for meaningful experiences.

I love being in the classroom, and am motivated by issues and ideas that challenge our world, and drawn to the problems and potentials of the young people who come into class each day. I am constantly trying to improve in the classroom and perhaps lecture less and facilitate more trying to continue to motivate students.

Positive feedback for alumni demonstrates to me that that the students benefited from my career as a teacher and that I have made a difference.

Be part of our community, as we work together to learn, lead, and inspire.
